Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Also called PTSD for short, this is defined as “Any event where a person might have experienced a traumatic event involving actual or threatened death or injury to themselves or others -- and where they felt fear, helplessness or horror, is considered to be traumatic.” These experiences can have lasting impact on how one feels and can affect a persons interactions in the world – with individuals such as family members, colleagues from work and people one meets on a day to day basis. People suffering from PTSD often have flashbacks to the event and may even forget where they are for the moment and that they are safe. They may have difficulty trusting people around them, even people they knew before the event – people who they trusted before. Please see more about this under trauma.
